Kicks Just For Kids![]() 'Get Sported' is a Bristol-based programme for local youths, with the aim of giving them moral life skills through sport. Following a very successful programme in 2005, 'Get Sported' is now coming to the end of its second year. From smashed bus shelters and looted telephone boxes, to under age drinking and drug abuse, the fall out of unoccupied youths is evident for all to see in many areas of the UK. While much of society regard these youths as a menace, the organisers of 'Get Sported' would argue they are simply misdirected. Fresh start Many come from broken homes and have suffered abuse and neglect, which they then pass onto others. The solution to the problem is not necessarily tighter security, but to build bridges between the youths and the local community. 'Get Sported' is a two week event that incorporates multiple sporting activities that include: football, cricket, touch rugby, volleyball, basketball and a fitness programme. All events have professionally qualified coaches working alongside volunteers of the Carmel Christian Centre. Everyone’s a winner This year has been a huge success. There have been up to 200 young people taking part every day, with an audience turnout of over two thousand. There were trophies, prizes and certificates provided for the winners and Adriano Basso (Bristol City's goalkeeper) was there to help out with the event along with a core group of professional sports coaches. Stancold maintains a keen interest in issues that affect the local community and we are delighted to have been given the opportunity to support the 'Get Sported' initiative. The event was a huge success and we wish it the best of luck in the future. For more information, contact: John Pearce at johnp@carmel-uk.org Please visit the Brochures section of our website.
